No. Every step runs in your browser with WebGPU or WebAssembly. The only downloads are the model files, fetched once and cached on your device.

No. Colourisation is a plausible guess learned from millions of photos: skies, foliage and skin usually come out right, but clothing, cars and painted walls cannot be known from a black-and-white image.

This tool repairs the whole photo. For soft or blurry faces, run the result through Face Restore, a separate free tool that rebuilds facial detail.

How it works

1 · Dust & specks

Each pixel is compared with the median of its 5×5 neighbourhood. Pixels far brighter or darker are treated as dust and refilled from the clean pixels around them.

2 · Grain & blur

Real-ESRGAN general v3, a small restoration network trained on noisy, blurred and compressed photos, rebuilds clean detail tile by tile. Keep the size or enlarge 2× / 4×.

3 · Tone

Each colour channel is stretched to its own black and white point, which removes fading and yellowing. Dark photos get a brightness curve picked from their own exposure.

4 · Colour

DeOldify predicts plausible colour from a grey copy. Only the colour is used: the sharpness and light of your photo are kept at full resolution.
